The Lakers remain stuck in 13th place and out of the playoff picture, and LeBron James’ injury is a big question mark.
PORTLAND, Ore. — In a series, the theory goes, a team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis will always have a puncher’s chance. The audacity of what the Lakers are trying to achieve came into sharp relief on Monday, as the shaken-up roster was. As of Tuesday, the Lakers are still 13th place in the West – a spot they have been in for a frustrating majority of the season – 4.5 games back from the 6 seed and 2.5 games out of the final play-in spot.
“The bad thing about it is we have 20-something games to do it – not a lot of time,” he said. “So, if we’re going to do it, let’s do it. If we’re going to keep making excuses about all the things that we can make excuses about, it just kind of limits our opportunity.” It hurts even more that James, the team’s top ball-handler, scorer and vocal leader, is missing games with a left foot injury. While Ham said James should play Wednesday against the Pelicans and James worked out extensively on Monday, the Lakers have been evasive about the nature of the injury, or whether it’s something that James can completely recover from during the season.
