Landscapers found a car buried 5 feet underground filled with bags of concrete in Silicon Valley, with the presence of human remains suspected.
The car is licensed to the previous owners of the house, who owned the property from 1990 to 2014, according to Daily Mail. The current owners of the $15 million mansion were apparently completely unaware of the vehicle and called the police following its discovery. Police suspect that the car may contain human remains.
“Cadaver dogs were called to the scene. The cadaver dogs made a slight notification of possible human remains,” Commander Dan Larsen of the Atherton Police Department said, NBC Bay Area News reported. However, he added that as of Thursday, no human remains had been found. The vehicle is believed to have been underground since the 1990s.
"On Thursday, October 20, 2022, at about 8.50am, Atherton police officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Stockbridge Avenue regarding a buried vehicle that was located during a landscaping project," an Atherton Police statement read, as seen by the Daily Mail."Due to the unknown nature of why the vehicle was buried, cadaver dogs were called to the scene. The cadaver dogs made a slight notification of possible human remains.
"There were unused bags of concrete throughout the vehicle. The vehicle was buried before the current homeowner occupied the home," it added."The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation." Atherton is ranked as the wealthiest per capita county in the United States, with an average income of $450,000."It's a mystery in my own neighborhood," neighbor Athena Ogawa told NBC Bay Area News. “It’s strange, but it was really fascinating to see all this happening. ... I just want to see how this plays out."
