McElroy said he approached UCISD Superintendent Hal Harrell asking how much it would cost the district to make its schools safer, according to the Leader-News. “I told Mark that I talked to Dr. Harrell and he told me we needed about $1 million to be able to implement some measures to make our schools here safer,” McElroy said, according to the Leader-News. “Mark, said, ‘Let’s do it.’”
Harrell called the donation “a very generous gift” and thanked Davis and McElroy for making it happen, according to the Leader-News. “We will put this money to good use,” Harrell said.
