An LA County Sheriff is in critical condition after he was apparently shot in the back of the head while in his cruiser in front of the Palmdale Sheriff's station.
It happened around 6 p.m. Saturday, just outside the Palmdale Sheriff's station. According to reports, a black car approached the deputy's patrol car, before firing into the cruiser, hitting the deputy. Surveillance video from the scene shows the black car pull up alongside the patrol car. No shots are seen, but the black car is seen speeding away while the deputy's cruiser rolls slightly forward before coming to a stop.
The deputy was initially transported to the hospital in his cruiser, but an ambulance caught up with them on the way. The deputy was then put in an ambulance and another deputy brought the cruiser to Antelope Valley Medical Center inLASD deputy shot on duty in Palmdale, hospitalized in critical condition
"It is scary, I mean I thought I felt safe because the police station is right there," said Gayle Alvarez, who lives in the area. "It's very sad and I do send my prayers to the family and his loved ones. I hope they find the guy, I really do." Saturday night, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger posted on social media saying, "I’m feeling a rush of emotions. Shock. Anger. I’m tracking this closely. We need to know what happened, why it happened, and who is responsible."
Officials have not yet released any information about a potential suspect, but were investigating the crime scene late into the night.
