Carnell Wesson, 30, was found guilty after a trial that concluded Sept. 7. Jurors also found Wesson guilty on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, in addition to the habitual criminal charge
The charges came after a March 2022 stop of a vehicle in which Wesson was a passenger. Zion police said that Wesson was in the back seat and appeared to hand something to the driver as officers approached.
“We appreciate the effective work of the Zion Police Department and the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Lab. Once again, our prosecutors were able to turn a successful investigation into a ‘guilty’ verdict,” State’s Attorney Eric Rinehart said in a news release. Wesson had been held in lieu of $1.25 million bail following his most recent arrest. A date for sentencing probably will be set in October.Gurnee’s popular Training in the Park program is returning this month. Gurnee firefighters will be providing demonstrations along with their trucks, and Gurnee police will be putting on K9 demonstrations.
