On the heels of Amanda Rollins' final episode on Law & Order: SVU, Mariska Hargitay bids Kelli Giddish farewell with an emotional post. Ahead of Law & Order: SVU season 24's premiere, news broke that Giddish was exiting the long-running police procedural. It still isn't clear what prompted her sudden departure from the show, and the actress has been mum on the subject. Neither NBC nor Wolf Entertainment has commented on this particular topic.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY As previously reported, the Law & Order: SVU season 24 fall finale marks the final episode of Giddish as a core cast member. After the episode, which saw the character getting married to Carisi followed by an emotional back-and-forth with Olivia Benson , Rollins has now officially exited the police procedural. Hargitay took to her official Instagram account to personally bid Giddish farewell.
As the face of Law & Order: SVU and producer of the show, Hargitay objected to the decision to force Giddish out of the show. The actress has yet to address this aspect of the controversy, but it's clear she is emotional about her co-star leaving. In Hargitay's initial statement about Giddish's exit, she focused on how important Giddish has been on the show since joining it back in season 13.
As seen on the Law & Order: SVU season 24 fall finale, Benson initially struggles with Rollins leaving her squad. While she eventually comes around and accepts her detective's decision, it's curious how this will affect her work moving forward. Aside from being one of her most reliable teammates, Rollins has also been a great friend to Benson, hence why she is able to talk openly about her complicated relationship with Stabler with her.
