Washington, D.C. leaders had mixed responses to a deal reached between the House and President Biden regarding raising the debt limit to avoid defaulting on financial obligations.
"The United States of America will not default on its debt," he said."Today’s agreement makes urgent progress toward preserving our nation’s full faith and credit and a much-needed step toward getting its financial house in order."
House speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-Calif., have a closer relationship than McCarthy had with former House Speaker Nancy Pelsoi, D-Calif., which may help them reach a deal to raise the debt limit. The group credits House Republicans with stopping"out-of-control" spending that has crippled family budgets by securing a series of historic wins.
