'Leaders are better when they are trained to lead in the arenas where God has called them, including you. Just as athletes train for competition, leaders are always looking for ways to learn and be better equipped.' - kellydking
I have a gym membership that hasn’t been used in more than a year. I would like to blame it all on COVID and a flood that closed down the gym for a few months, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit that going to the gym isn’t high on my priority list. I make excuses and justify my lack of enthusiasm for saying that walking each day is enough. But it really isn’t. If I want to be in better physical shape, then being diligent to exercise is important.
The world has been tuning in to watch the Summer Olympics. We marvel at the athletes—as most of us eat nachos or ice cream and dream of former days when we could shoot a basketball or attempt a cartwheel. These athletes capture our attention, and we cheer for them and for our country to receive a coveted medal. Yet most of us don’t truly understand what it took for an athlete to make it to that level of competition.
Tucked away in Colorado Springs is one of four U.S. Olympic training centers. My family has visited the center on several occasions, and we are always hopeful for a glimpse of a promising Olympic athlete or to be inspired by their dedication to training. Because if there’s one thing that is true, it’s that Olympians don’t just happen. We cheer them on for a few moments in their respective competitions, but it only happens because they have sacrificed and spent years training for those moments.
The apostle Paul often used the imagery of an athlete when he stressed the importance of pursuing godliness.says, “But have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths. Rather, train yourself in godliness. For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

How to elevate women in techInternational Women’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the progress made towards gender parity. But it also highlights areas where urgent change is required. In recent years, the tech industry has come under fire for its lack of gender diversity. According to a UK survey by PwC, just 23% of people working in STEM roles are female, while only 5% of leadership positions in the technology industry are held by women. In a damning indictment of the sector’s absence of female role models, 78% of students surveyed were unable to name a famous woman working in tech. With business leaders anticipating a growing tech skills shortage, now is the time for the sector to tap into the underutilised female talent pool and start levelling the playing field. For Hexaware, a company looking to onboard 6,000 new tech recruits this year alone, the business case is also undeniable. “As an industry, there’s a lot of effort required to bridge the gender gap,” says Hexaware’s senior vice president for HR, Malini Moorthy. “What we’re trying to do is take the lead with the types of initiatives and programmes that are going to drive real change.” Tackling the tech gender gap For women considering a career in tech, long-standing perceptions of the industry can be off-putting. As part of its 2019 Global Gender Gap Report, the World Economic Forum found that a majority of women still regarded technology as a male industry. In order to change these attitudes and encourage more women to enter the sector, intervention is required from an early stage. By the time women reach university, PwC’s report shows that only 3% of female students say a career in tech is their first choice. Growing up in India in the 80s, Moorthy experienced first-hand an environment where “premium education was reserved for boys”. Accordingly, she highlights the importance of tackling the gender gap at the education level itself. “I remember, when I was studying, out of our batch of 520 people, there were only around 50 wome
