Lenovo unveils the ThinkPad Z13 Gen2, which has a cover partially constructed from woven flax
Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2, a laptop with a cover that’s partially made from woven flax fiber.
The unusual-looking laptop has a woven texture on the case, certainly making it stand out from the swathes of pure aluminum or plastic cases we’re used to seeing on laptops. The casing isn’t entirely natural materials. The natural fiber is bonded to the 75% recycled aluminum used to construct the top cover. Lenovo claims the flax material is “made from 100% agricultural product collected by harvesting flax plant fibers”, continuing the trend of tech companies trying to include more natural or recycled materials in their equipment.The laptop offers plenty of power on the inside.
It can be configured with up to 64GB of RAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage, although you can expect to pay an almighty premium for that top-of-the-range spec. The laptop has a Wi-Fi6E chip inside, meaning it can take advantage of the uncongested 6GHz Wi-Fi channel when used with a suitably equipped router. Designed for professional users, the laptop also comes with a Full HD webcam and Dolby Voice enabled microphones.Neither laptop will be launched until the summer. The ThinkPad Z13 Gen 2 will start from €1,649 when it launches in July, while the Z16 Gen 2 will start from €2,249 in August. It’s not yet clear if either model will be launched in the U.
