On the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, a reader reminds us to remember those who lost their lives during the attack and during the war.Eighty-one years ago, the picturesque, peaceful harbor in Honolulu was rocked by an unprovoked attack that changed the course of our nation and the world. The calm, cerulean seas within that tranquil port in O’ahu turned into a ghoulish, crimson lake of Hadean flames; twisted, ghostly gray metal wreckage; and agonizing death.
The death, destruction and devastation caused by the attack forced the United States to be rudely awakened from its “isolationist slumber.” The United States fought a war for freedom and human dignity against the nightmare of totalitarianism.
