Re: “Going to extremes on abortion — Former Democratic congressman says party is driving voters away by rejecting compromise,” by Daniel Lipinski, Jan. 22...

Lipinski’s column, representing’ initiative promoting The American Middle, cites abortion as evidence of extremism.

Roe established a fetal viability test, allowing for restrictions thereafter. It recognized the decision to end a pregnancy as part of a broader respect for the life of the woman. It also honored the judgment of medical professionals who have sworn to “do no harm” as a first principle.Rev. George A.

At 20+ weeks, every abortion is an exception. People who don’t want kids get abortions in the first trimester. Those who believe abortion should be legal at 20 weeks “with exceptions” in practice believe in abortion rights. Compare them to Republicans, who are now prosecuting people for miscarriages, and believe a zygote deserves more rights than a crying, living baby.

They may very well be denied access to birth control. If they become pregnant, even if it is the result of rape, they will be forced to give birth. If they have a miscarriage, they will be subject to a criminal investigation to determine if it was self-induced.Cecil Larry Pool, MidlothianI disagree with the implicit assertion that it is illogical to be both anti-abortion and pro-death penalty.
