I’m basking in our recent 60 degree weather, sitting outside and looking at the pool. Not much before this warm weather, there was an arctic blast and it was 10 degrees. Fortunately, I had seen a comforting news conference featuring the governor and some top level officials assuring me that all was well and the Texas grid was well-prepared and not to worry.
But then the wind died down and it was overcast and the lines on the grid monitor got closer and closer, ERCOT officials asked the federal government to hold some of the rules in abeyance so the available traditional power sources would be able to keep up. So why do I still worry? After just receiving my eye-popping Atmos gas bill of $384.29, more than twice last month’s bill, I called customer service. A very nice woman explained the $262.91 rider was because of the big freeze two years ago.
This is a follow-up to Mr. Cooper’s letter. Our Texas Legislature supports arming teachers, permitless carry, no semi-automatic gun restrictions and 18-year-olds purchasing guns. Why would they not include students carrying guns on campus as well? After all, they’re enamored with the “good guys with guns” approach. Why not “good” 18-year-olds?
Over the previous decade, the world had made progress in reducing global TB cases. However, the COVID-19 pandemic diverted resources from the fight against TB and, as a result, tuberculosis cases and deaths are again on the rise. A World Health Organization report shows that worldwide, 1.6 million people died of TB in 2021.
I read Silva’s letter concerning the trash on the highways, which prompted me to call out the trash that has suddenly accumulated on Spring Creek Parkway and Preston Road. The reason? The new H-E-B, the one everyone was so excited about coming to Plano.
