Although I have read that Robert Jeffress supports these vouchers and has vowed First Baptist Church of Dallas will support them, I believe that this violates the separation of church and state. Charles Foster Johnson, director of Pastors for Texas Children, stated that “all genuine faith is voluntary and cannot properly be endorsed or supported by the authority of the state.” He further stated: “The use of public tax dollars to subsidize religious instruction is a sin against God.
Regardless of the result of the election, we have to deal with the following hard data realities. According to demographic firm Zonda Demographic Research, there will be 2,412 housing starts in the Prosper ISD, leading to 17,943 future residents. So where are these kids supposed to go to school? In trailers?
What the column does is concentrate on the 3% of the school bond issue that is devoted to a stadium. While sports is a bigger deal here than in most parts of the country, it seems taxpayers around these parts have said it is table stakes, part of the cost of entry. You don’t have athletic facilities, then your housing value drops.A performing arts center is scheduled to be built with the bond issue, so the district is not all about jocks.
