Jim Jordan its next speaker. Jordan fell short on his first attempt Tuesday, with 20 GOP colleagues refusing to support his bid for speaker.
That number increased to 22 when he returned to the House floor on Wednesday, with a several Republicans complaining of Jordan’s hardball tactics in pursuit of their votes. The position has remained vacant since Rep. Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the post — the next speaker has roughly five weeks remaining to pass a funding deal and avert a government shutdown.
