Follow along with our live updates as Houston-area athletes compete at the UIL Class 5A...
We have arrived at Mike A. Myers Stadium for the Class 5A track and field state championships. The first big event of the day was the boys 3,200, where Lake Creek senior Carter Gordy took fourth place with a time of 9:22.35.
Gordy appeared to be headed for the bronze medal before collapsing just short of the finish line. He was able to get up and complete the race, but was passed by another competitor. Gordy has been a standout performer for the Lake Creek cross country and track and field program during his career and will compete in the 1,600 later today.
