In an NFL age where offense-friendly rules favor quarterbacks and attacking through the air, it can be tough for coaches to resist the urge to become pass-happy. That’s especially true when the quarterbacks operating those offenses are the likes of Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes or even 24–year-old Los Angeles Chargers gunslinger Justin Herbert.
Obviously, it’s much more tempting to let elite QBs carry the burden of throwing early and often to win games. But even that group understands the value of an efficient running attack in short-yardage and red-zone situations. |
