NEW: Liz Truss is a veteran of Boris Johnson's Conservative Party, whose members got to pick the next British leader without input from the rest of the country.
Members of Britain's Conservative Party selected Liz Truss to replace Boris Johnson as the party's leader on Monday, meaning Truss will take over as the U.K. Prime Minister on Tuesday. The former foreign secretary will officially begin her new job after Johnson visits Queen Elizabeth II to formally resign.A longtime Conservative politician, Truss was the U.K.'s first female Lord Chancellor, the cabinet member in charge of the courts.
The U.K. is also facing an energy crisis, due largely to the war in Ukraine. The price of energy has risen for most households by more than 50% already, and another rise predicted in October could push the increase up to 80%.
