Lizzo speaks up once again about obsessive body discourse: retire it. The singer has had to be a voice on the matter for virtually her entire career, and that’s not even what she does professionally. On Friday afternoon, she took to Instagram Reels to say her piece once more.In the video, the singer doesn’t even get the chance to prop her phone down before she starts. “The discourse around bodies is officially tired,” she said.
She continues to talk about how artists don’t exist to look how you want them to look. They exist to create art. “I wish that comments costed y’all money, so we could see how much time we are f*cking wasting on the wrong thing.”Unfortunately, Lizzo, a professional recording artist who is halfway along to EGOT status, has long had to fight off unfair, ignorant, and downright excessive discussion of her body.
It doesn’t hurt the message at all that her latest Instagram Reel features her at the pool, dressed in a bikini, unbothered.
