APD says they didn't
Local musician Darius Jackson is accusing Austin police of smashing his guitar, though police deny it.
Jackson, a working musician, says he stepped outside during an Aug. 12 gig at Friends on Dirty Sixth to play to passersby and was confronted by an unnamed APD officer. “He rushed me and yelled, ‘You’re being noncompliant so now you are being detained and I’m either gonna give you a citation or arrest you,’” Jackson wrote on Facebook. “He then rips my guitar off me and throws it on the ground.”
In his post about the incident, Jackson included a picture of what appears to be a Gibson Les Paul Jr. with the neck snapped off the body. He said the officer put him in handcuffs and threatened to tase him, but ultimately gave him a citation and let him go.asked APD if there were any inaccuracies in Jackson’s post, what he was cited for, and which of its officers was involved.
