The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 has been hit with another filming complication in the UK, this time related to filming locations.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is facing another issue while filming in the UK. The season began production in October 2022, leaving behind the many New Zealand filming locations present in season 1. The relocation has not been without a few issues on set, including a small fire in early April.
Now, according to Mirror, locals in Berkshire are worried that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 production could harm wildlife and damage Swinley Forest. The forest, which is owned by King Charles III, has many sets pertaining to the series built there, including a castle that is being constructed. Gill Cheetham of Bracknell Forest Society says, "Local environmental groups are disappointed that damage to the fragile ecosystem is being allowed.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Rings Of Power Season 2 Production Problems Explained A planning report for The Rings of Power season 2's production indicates there will be a major environmental impact from the show being filmed there, including damage to bees and ants' habitats. Aside from the Bracknell Forest Society, there are plenty of locals who are also angry with the show being filmed in Swinley Forest.
The controversy surrounding The Rings of Power season 2's filming location isn't the first time production has been criticized for possibly putting animals in danger. In late March, a horse died on The Rings of Power season 2 set, despite no signs of previous health issues. The horse's death was criticized by PETA, who urged The Rings of Power to consider CGI horses for future production.
While it's unclear how much environmental damage The Rings of Power's production may cause, it's clear there will be some impact on Swinley Forest. Environmentalists and locals are hoping their protests can make the production crew more aware of their surroundings and adjust their plans accordingly. If reassurances from The Crown Estate are anything to go by, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 may be able to avoid doing irreparable damage during production.
