The LoveIsland franchise is expanding once again
on Tuesday. For the winter edition, the show will shoot in South Africa, instead of Mallorca, Spain, where it has been set for the last five seasons.
ITV is doubling down on the show’s popularity. In the U.K., it’s become one of the most-watched shows on television, with millions of people viewing each episode—an especially significant feat because the show airs new episodes daily. The premiere episode of the current season drew in, the new winter series also serves another purpose beyond expanding the franchise: It might help pick up ITV’s flagging advertising revenue. The network saw a 5% fall in the first half of 2019.
