Kathy Hochul will become the first female governor in New York’s history after Andrew Cuomo resigned from office Tuesday
Ms. Hochul, 62 years old, has been the second in command to Mr. Cuomo since 2015, though hasn’t been a part of the Democratic governor’s inner circle.
She has been, “As someone who has served at all levels of government and is next in the line of succession, I am prepared to lead as New York State’s 57th Governor.”Ms. Hochul wasn’t involved in most senior staff meetings during Mr. Cuomo’s tenure and had a limited role in crafting policy. She frequently traveled around the state to represent the administration at ribbon-cuttings, herald new policies and emcee events.
