MacArthur boys beat Cypress Springs for 18th straight win, set up playoff rematch with The Woodlands
The Woodlands and MacArthur will meet again in the playoffs this season after playing last year for a berth in the Class 6A state tournament.MacArthur hasn’t lost a game since last April, when it met The Woodlands for a spot in the Class 6A boys soccer state tournament.
Senior defender Cristian Lopez opened the scoring early in the game, three others added goals in the second half and MacArthur shut out Cypress Springs 4-0 to advance to the regional quarterfinals for the third consecutive year. “They were playing real hard so we had to adjust to that. …We talked at halftime that we had to take more shots and go after them a little bit more in the final third,” MacArthur coach Salvador Fernandez said.
Cypress Springs , which placed third in District 16-6A, met MacArthur in the playoffs for the second time in three years. The Panthers, who beat Waller 4-1 in the first round, were trying to reach the regional quarterfinals for the third time in program history under coach Diego Pinto. The Generals shut out the Panthers 2-0 in the area round in 2020-21.
