Two separate storms are poised to sweep the San Francisco Bay Area, Saturday through Tuesday.
Bay Area, Saturday through Tuesday, and bring even more rain to a region that has seen a prolonged period of wet weather since late December. The first system is a typical winter storm that's forecast to bring light to moderate rain on Saturday; second is a strong atmospheric river predicted to deliver heavy downpours on Sunday night into Monday that could lead to widespread flooding.
A trough of low pressure off the coast of California was sending light rain to the North Bay on Saturday morning. The rain is forecast to push into the central Bay Area, including San Francisco later this morning. In the first storm, the North Bay is forecast to receive 1 to 3 inches of rain in valley areas and 3 to 6 inches in the mountains. Across the rest of the Bay Area, urban areas will measure about 0.5 inch. The Santa Cruz Mountains could see 2 to 4 inches, Palmer said.
