Major League Baseball will test all players for opioids and remove marijuana from its list of drugs of abuse
SAN DIEGO—All major-league players will face mandatory testing for opioids starting next spring training, a significant change to baseball’s drug policy, under a new agreement announced Thursday by Major League Baseball and its players union.
The deal comes less than six months after Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died in his Texas hotel room with oxycodone, fentanyl and alcohol in his system, drawing new attention to baseball’s share in an opioid epidemic that is now causing around 50,000 deaths annually.
