A new poll found broad concern over President Joe Biden’s age as he seeks a second term in the White House, with 7 in 10 responding that he is too old to be president, including half of Democrats.
The poll, from JL Partners/DailyMail.com, found 49% of Democrats said Biden is too old to be president, while 28% believed he is the right age, and 23% replied they were unsure. The poll also found 71% of likely general election voters believe he is too old to be president. If reelected, Biden would be 86 years old at the end of his second term.
Nearly all the respondents who identified as Republican, 94%, said they believe he is too old to be president, while 71% of independents said they had the same view. The former senator and vice president was 78 when he was sworn in as president in January 2021, making him the oldest to hold the office in history. Biden’s expected GOP challenger in 2024, former President Donald Trump, is only slightly younger at 77.
The poll also found voters were most likely to describe Trump in one word as “criminal,” whereas voters described Biden as “old.”Voters can expect concerns about Biden’s age will be front and center in the election. Earlier this month, a video of Biden tripping over a sandbag at the Air Force Academy commencement went viral.
JL Partners’s survey included responses from 1,000 likely general election voters between June 12-15. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Results from the poll also suggest that if the general election were held tomorrow, Biden would narrowly hold on to the White House.
