This study enrolled nearly 80 subjects and examined changes in systolic and diastolic function that occur after short and long distance strenuous exercise.
She was also co-PI of the study, Echocardiographic Assessment of Changes in Left Ventricular Systolic and Diastolic Function in Elite Endurance Athletes, involving echocardiographic evaluation of Olympic speed skaters. It examined the effect of intense training and short duration, high-intensity exercise on systolic and diastolic left and right ventricular function.
She served as the PI for the HAPPY Heart study, a pilot examining cardiovascular disease prevention in low income women with cardiovascular risk factors. This susbjects in the study received an evaluation of risk factors, exercise ability and psychosocial factors. It also includes echocardiography and carotid intimal-medial thickness measurement. This 2-year program lead to significant improvements in heart disease risk factors, stress and anxiety levels, Dr.
