VALLETTA - Prime Minister Joseph Muscat defended on Monday his government’s handling of the murder in 2017 of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and called for national unity after days of protests over a case that has stunned Malta.
Muscat announced on Sunday he would step down next month, giving his Labour party time to select a new leader. Both men had been suing Caruana Galizia for libel over allegations she made about their business deals.Critics are angry with Muscat for sticking by Schembri, and for including him in security briefings on the investigation even after Fenech was identified as a suspect in the murder and as an associate of Schembri.
