On April 6, Del Angel’s husband was getting food from a taco truck in the 1800 block of Southwest Military Drive when someone yelled at him. It was Contreras, whom the husband knew in connection with an ex-girlfriend, an affidavit supporting Contreras’ arrest states. Contreras was approaching with a gun in his hand.
Del Angel’s husband ran to his Jeep, but Contreras chased him, the affidavit states. Once in the Jeep, where Del Angel was sitting on the passenger side, the husband tried to drive in reverse but hit a parked car.Contreras fired a shot, police said. The bullet went through the driver’s side window and hit Del Angel in the chest.
Her husband drove to a gas station at Southwest Military and Commercial Avenue and called for help. Del Angel died at the scene.and a special education teacher for Southside Independent School District, News 4 reports.
