Dallas police are investigating a shooting that left an 11-year-old dead and a woman wounded early Saturday morning.
Jakeith Huntley has been charged with capital murder. According to court records, Huntley has faced multiple aggravated assault charges in the last 10-plus years.
The shooting happened just after 2 a.m., when officers arrived in the 6400 block of Royal Lane to find a boy and woman had been shot.The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Family members confirmed to FOX 4 the injured woman is the boy’s mother, and said she was in surgery Saturday.police and taken into custody hours later. Huntley was taken to DPD headquarters to be interviewed.
Online records show Huntley already faces an aggravated assault serious bodily injury charge out of Denton County for an incident in 2021. He served four years in prison, before being released in 2014 for an aggravated assault in McLennan County. No further details have been released about what led up to the shooting, but police said Huntley was known to the victims.
FOX 4 was able to speak to a family member through the home’s door surveillance camera Saturday afternoon. She said her daughter and her grandson were the two victims, and that Huntley is her daughter’s ex-boyfriend, adding that he showed up unexpectedly overnight.
