PHOENIX — A man has been arrested after an officer-involved shooting Saturday morning at a Walmart near 35th Avenue and Southern.
An officer, who was in full uniform, was working off-duty when a loss prevention employee notified him of a man who was suspected of shoplifting.Phoenix PD provide update on 35th/Southern Ave shooting The officer and loss prevention employee waited at the store's exit for the man. When he approached, the employee stopped him to talk. During the interaction, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the employee and toward the officer who was nearby, according to Phoenix PD officials.
The officer then fired his own gun at the man who then ran back into the store. He was not injured by gunfire. Eventually, the man ran out of the store and was found by responding officers in a nearby neighborhood. He was arrested and police officials say a gun was located next to the area where he was.
He was booked into jail and is facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer.
