Wednesday's shooting was a block away from where two people were killed Sunday afternoon.
One person died following a shooting in the first block of 17th Street in Harrisburg on March 16, 2022. One man died after a shooting in Harrisburg on Wednesday evening, according to police.
Harrisburg police Lt. Kyle Gautsch said just before 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to the first block of South 17th Street for reports of shots fired. Gautsch said responding officers were told that a vehicle was leaving the area with a potential victim inside. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries but he later died.
City spokesman Matt Maisel said the man was 23. Police say they believe that the shooting was targeted and the public is not in danger.The investigation was ongoing Wednesday night, with officers closely looking at a vehicle with open doors and the yards of several row homes on the block. There were other reports of shots fired on Wednesday, but Gautsch said the 17th Street shooting was the only one that had any injuries. One near Fourth and Emerald streets did involve some property damage.
