Officers responded about 1 p.m. to the 3500 block of Rio Grande Circle where they found the man, identified as Jamien Olivares, on the ground with a gunshot wound and lying near a handgun.men had been fighting when Olivares fired one round, grazing one of the men in the back of the head. Olivares then fell to his knee and tried to shoot at the pair two more times.
The men told Olivares to get on the ground while they called police. Police said Olivares complied, but then raised the weapon as if he was going to shoot again when one of the men fired, striking him.The man who shot Olivares was treated at a hospital and released. Police said he gave a statement to detectives. A grand jury will decide whether he faces charges in Olivares’ death, police said.. Maggie writes about breaking news, crime and weather.
