The man accused of the burglary, whom police have identified as Michael Christopher Nunez, 47, was outside the 911 caller’s home when police arrived. Nunez was armed, according to police. Police have said an officer who was at the location shot Nunez when he “advanced toward” an officer. He died at the scene, according to police.
The officer who fired the weapon was placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy, the DeSoto Police Department said in a Monday news release. Huerta said he “cannot elaborate any further on how the suspect was armed,” adding that police are investigating what led to the shooting.
