The shooting was reported about 9:24 p.m. Tuesday in the 2000 block of 23rd Avenue.
Officers responding to the scene provided emergency first aid to the man before he was taken to a hospital where he died.The killing is the 18th death investigated as a homicide by Oakland police this year. The California Highway Patrol has also investigated two homicides on Oakland freeways. Last year at this time Oakland police had investigated 26 homicides in the city.
