A person was killed in what San Francisco police said was a hit-and-run on 18th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.
The San Francisco Police Department, in a statement Sunday, said officers responded to the corner at 2:41 a.m. after receiving a call of someone lying in the street. “Officers arrived on scene and determined that the victim was struck by a vehicle which fled the scene,” the department said in a statement.
The police officers rendered first-aid to the man and called medics, who declared him dead on the scene, the statement read. Police officers on the scene did not answer questions about the incident, which occurred outside Whiz Burgers. The officers were looking for more information from passers-by, of whom there were few at so early in the morning.
A yellow tarp lay over the body on the side of the road. South Van Ness was blocked off between 18th and 19th streets for more than an hour in the early morning.Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and start the message with SFPD.We rely on you, our readers, to fund our journalism.
