A federal trial has begun for a Haitian man accused of biting three federal officers in San Antonio during a deportation flight to Haiti. The flight was delayed, and Jubenson Dominique was charged with assaulting the officers.
Nearly two years ago, Jubenson Dominique — one of more than 100 Haitian immigrants being deported under Title 42, a COVID public health emergency order — was accused of biting several federal officers on a government plane set to fly out of San Antonio.
"They saw him as he was handed from person to person to be removed from the plane," Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy Hail said in opening arguments on Monday."To keep from being removed, he assaulted three different workers for the government." Dominique was among a group of Haitian migrants who'd been bused overnight on Sept. 20, 2021, from Del Rio to a waiting airplane in San Antonio.
Dominique and at least 111 other migrants were on the plane to Haiti. Dominique was one of about 60 men were restrained with leg shackles and handcuffs bound to waist chains. They were seated at the back of the plane. Parents with their children were seated, unrestrained, at the front. There were 13 guards, six crew members and a registered nurse on board.
