Qua’Shawn Stallworth, who was a 17-year-old Keith High School student at the time of the fatal shooting, was initially charged with capital murder in the death of Shalexis Ellis. On Monday, he pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of murder.

On Monday, according to Dallas County District Attorney Robert Turner, Stallworth pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of murder in the March 5, 2019, slaying of 23-year-old Shalexis Ellis.Turner said Stallworth was sentenced to 20 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections.“The sentence is a straight sentence with no probation applied,’’ Turner said. “The sentencing of Mr. Stallworth ends a four year wait for the family of Ms. Shalexis Ellis for justice to be served.

The shooting happened at their Orrville home on that Wednesday. Stallworth was arrested the following day, and claimed the shooting was an accident. “The memories her family holds of her as a loving mother, a devoted daughter, sister, and a shining light in her community, speak to the impact she had on the lives of those around her,’’ the district attorney said.

“Domestic violence of any sort destroys lives,’’ Turner said. “It is the aim of the District Attorney’s Office and law enforcement officers throughout the circuit to punish those who continue to engage in such behavior.
