After learning of the Russian invasion, Ian Umney decided he would travel into Ukraine to be reunited with his family, chronicling the journey on TikTok.
His first video that he shared showed the bags he prepared for his travels, as well as some of the items he packed.
Since the first video, Umney shared several other videos documenting where he was on his journey, which included an overnight train ride."I was relieved when I got on the train to the city because that was the final leg of the journey," he said."So, even though it took a long time, it was the final step that I had to take."When he was finally reunited with his family, Umney described the moment as"very emotionally charged.
He said he and his family have been planning to live in England, and he moved back earlier to find a job and a house. While that remains the plan, Umney said they are waiting for the right time to make the move. "There are signs posted showing you the nearest bomb shelter," Umney said."I haven't seen any roadblocks in the city yet, which is what I want to go out and do tomorrow. But, overall, it does seem quite normal. Although, a bit tense."
