, bestiality and bondage while he lived in Wisconsin and roomed with a friend in Texas.

Timothy Lee Tyler, 44, appeared in federal court in Houston after he pleaded guilty on Sept. 12, 2022, toin 2020 and to possessing child pornography in both 2019 and 2020, the Justice Department said in a news release. U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen sentenced him to to 30 years for distributing the images and videos, and 20 years for possessing the graphic material, but the federal judge declared that a portion of the sentences would run consecutively for a total of 40 years.

Before the judge's ruling, the court learned of Tyler's prior offenses against children which he knew through friends and loved ones, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. He had also been a frequent user of the messaging app Kik, and prosecutors said he encouraged other child predators to use the app to create child pornography"for his enjoyment," the release said.

Tyler admitted in court to sharing child sexual abuse images and videos through Kik in 2020 while he was staying with a friend in Conroe. When he was arrested in January 2021, authorities found hundreds of files on his cell phone. He told authorities that he had hundreds of similar files on a flash drive when he lived in Milwaukee in June 2019.

“For years, this person preyed upon children,” U.S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani said in the release. “Online, he encouraged other predators to abuse their own children for his sick gratification. In real life, he terrorized and abused children of people close to him. This sentence will help ensure he isn’t allowed access to children ever again.
