The man allegedly performed sexual acts on the animal, seriously injuring it, investigators said.
An Asbury Park man was arrested Thursday after he was accused of torturing and killing his pet cat, authorities said.Asbury Park Police DepartmentDetectives from the department and the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Humane Law Enforcement Division determined that the cat had belonged to an 18-year-old city man, the office said.
The man was alleged to have first seriously injured the animal by performing sexual acts on it and later restrained and tortured it, resulting in its death, investigators said. He was located and arrested later that day and taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending a detention hearing tentatively scheduled for March 8, officials said.
The man was charged with animal cruelty by tormenting, torturing, or unnecessarily or cruelly abusing a living animal, resulting in its death, and animal cruelty by using or causing or procuring the use of an animal or creature in any kind of sexual manner, the office said.
