James Skernivitz and police informant Scott Dingess.CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man who pleaded guilty to killing an undercover Cleveland police detective and an informant will be sentenced Thursday afternoon.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Michael Shaughnessy can impose a sentence of up to life without parole.Skernivitz and Dingess were shot while they sat in an unmarked police car preparing for an undercover drug deal in a parking lot near West 65th Street and Storer Avenue.were out looking to steal a gun from a classmate when they spotted the men sitting in the car, according to prior testimony.
