Here's what we know, so far, about a shooting in Chollas Creek that left a San Diego police officer wounded.
A multi-agency manhunt is underway for a suspect who shot a San Diego police officer in the Chollas Creek neighborhood Thursday.
Residents in the neighborhood surrounding 52nd Street and University Avenue were asked to shelter in place around noon as law enforcement officers from several agencies searched for a suspect considered"armed and dangerous," SDPD said. SDPD Officer Darius Jamsetjee confirmed one of their own had been shot. The injuries were not considered life-threatening and no other details were provided, including any information on the officer or where they were shot.
Details on the events leading up to the shooting were also not released, although Jamsetjee did say a SWAT team and crisis negotiators also responded to the scene for the initial call.Sign up for NBC San Diego newsletters. After the shooting, SDPD put out a county-wide call to every law-enforcement agency for help in their suspect search, which spanned from 52nd to 54th Street and from Whightman to University avenues.The San Diego Sheriff's Department was one of several agencies who answed the call shortly after 11:20 a.m. A sheriff's helicopter zipped overhead as several armed law enforcement officers from various agencies sprawled throughout the neighborhood.
