This can be attributed to the same problem that made Lost's ending so divisive. After several lengthy seasons that raise question after question, Manifest fails to tie up many of its loose threads. Although it offers an explanation for Flight 828's disappearance, it doesn't come back to every mystery it introduces.
Shows like Manifest and Lost tend to drag out minor subplots while building to reveals about the overarching story. This is sometimes to their detriment, as fans get tired and frustrated wading through unrelated plot lines just to get to the main point. Manifest definitely has its weaker episodes and storylines. Another two seasons would have added to those, all while making it more difficult for the creators to neatly tie everything up.
