Mark Meadows, Trump’s White House chief of staff who spread false election fraud claims, is now under investigation for alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election.
a letter claiming that Italy–based operators had used satellites to remotely manipulate U.S. voting machines. According to CNN, he circulated YouTube videos alleging widespread voter fraud, and also contacted officials at the FBI, Pentagon, and National Security Council with claims that China had used thermostats to hack into voting machines and falsify ballots.
Before the 2020 election even took place, Meadows was laying the groundwork for Trump’s “stolen election” messaging blitz; in an interview within August 2020, Meadows cast doubt over the use of mail-in ballots, and dismissed the fact that there had been no evidence of widespread voter fraud, claiming that “there’s no evidence that there’s not [voter fraud] either.
