The Marlboro defense allowed seven or fewer points for a third-straight game Thursday night and the Mustangs improved to 3-0 with a 17-7 victory at Howell.
Marlboro, which is 2-0 in the Shore Conference Freedom Division, will be in sole possession of first place at least for one night. Jackson Memorial and Middletown North are each 2-0 in the division and meet Friday night in Middletown. It was the third TD pass of the season for the unspectacular, but steady Klein, who made his varsity start last season against Howell.
The Marlboro defensive unit was especially dominant in the first half. The Mustangs held Howell without a first down.
