The Marvel goddess Bast has played a big part in both Black Panther movies and had a surprising connection to Phase 4’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever focused heavily on Shuri's connection to Bast, the MCU's Panther Goddess, who has an interesting Thor: Love and Thunder connection. Bast was first mentioned in Captain America: Civil War, with the introduction to the MCU's T'Challa, played by the late Chadwick Boseman. Bast was also directly referenced in the opening of Black Panther, revealing that the goddess was directly involved in creating the first Black Panther.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Because of Bast's immense importance to Wakandan culture, the goddess has been mentioned many times in both Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Also, Phase 4's greater focus on the gods of the MCU in films like Thor: Love and Thunder and Eternals led to Easter eggs pertaining to Bast.
The opening of Black Panther then made Bast even more intrinsic to the titular superhero by explaining she was instrumental in the first Black Panther's creation. The film's prologue features narration from Sterling K. Brown's N'Jobu, who explains that Bast actively sent a vision to a Wakandan named Bashenga during the war of the five tribes of the country.
Bast Physically Appears In Thor: Love & Thunder Aside from the character's obvious importance to the MCU's Black Panther franchise, Bast also has a link to one of Marvel's major Phase 4 properties. This reference comes in Thor: Love and Thunder, in which the physical embodiment of Bast can be seen at Omnipotence City and the Council of the Gods. In the scene, Bast is shown attending the council, sitting in front of Thor, Jane, and Valkyrie.
