That’s because the beefy hammer-wielding hero would be considered obese if he stepped off the silver screen and onto a real-life doctor’s weight scale.
Looking at body mass index — determined through a measure of height and weight — the study found Marvel’s male characters averaged a body mass index of 30.8, while female characters averaged a 20.2 BMI. A “normal weight” BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. A BMI of 30 or above is considered obese.
That’s a nod to the online meme noting when Chris Evans played Captain American, the actor’s torso fit nicely into the shape of a downward-pointing Frito-Lay PEP, -0.32% Dorito. Like Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, Evans looms large in “Endgame.” There’s already been all sorts of criticism of comics for decades, starting with a 1954 Senate subcommittee wringing hands on juvenile delinquency and comics.
Ahead of the movie, Gadot had her share of internet haters who said she didn’t match the Wonder Woman they imagined. But Gadot had no time for the naysayers and told Rolling Stone the film’s success “shows that the world was ready for a female-driven action movie.”
