Tourists, be warned: Travel around France is in a tangle today because of mass strikes and protests over President Macron's retirement reform. And the walkout is disrupting the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum, too.

Tourists are canceling travel plans and Paris is deploying thousands of police as France girds for massive, nationwide strikes and protests against President Emmanuel Macron's plans to overhaul the retirement system. Transport will be hardest hit by the walkout, with flights, trains and buses canceled and most of the Paris subway system coming to a halt.
Subway stations across Paris were shuttered, complicating traffic — and prompting many commuters to use shared bikes or electric scooters instead. Many workers in the Paris region worked from home or took a day off to stay with their children, since 78 percent of teachers in the capital were on strike.
Public sector workers fear President Emmanuel Macron’s reform will force them to work longer and shrink their pensions. And they see this fight as crucial to saving France’s social safety net.
