FRISCO – After the initial shock and heartbreak subsided, new Dallas Stars forward Matt Duchene found understanding. The Nashville Predators, operating under...
– will probably stay intact. Duchene could play alongside Tyler Seguin, whom he’s known since they were children in Ontario. It didn’t matter because the Stars are one of the few teams that could offer Duchene a chance at contending for a Stanley Cup.Duchene has played in 32 postseason games during his 13 years in the NHL. The longest playoff run he had was with Columbus in 2019, when the Blue Jackets were eliminated in Game 6 of the second round against the Boston Bruins.
“That’s something that’s frustrated me beyond I could explain,” Duchene said. “Just to not have that real good taste. We had a heck of a team that year in Columbus. We could’ve gone to the finals that year, and so it was even more heartbreaking that we didn’t go further.”, filled with players in their prime and veterans such as Pavelski, who are just as hungry as Duchene is to win a Stanley Cup.
“It’s really exciting to come into,” Duchene said. “And again, I want to fit in, but I also want to come in and do what I’m being brought in here to do.”Duchene has the same representation as Robertson and Stars captain Jamie Benn. He talked with them before he signed with the Stars. Duchene said he also met with the Stars the last time he was a free agent, in 2019, but ultimately signed a seven-year, $56 million deal with Nashville.
Duchene said Nashville will likely be home for his family after his playing career ends. In the meantime, he hopes to chase a Stanley Cup with a team that wants him.
